Three Texas anglers in an aluminum jonboat that went over a spillway on Lake Mexia on Monday found themselves in a world of trouble just as night was falling.
The boat became lodged between rocks in the shallow waters of the Navasota River and the boaters — a man and two boys, ages 12 and 17 — would await rescue for nearly five hours.
After heavy rains, the water was judged too rough and fast-moving for a water rescue, so local first responders worked like the Coast Guard, using a helicopter to lift the boaters out of the vessel and carry them to shore.
The boaters were taken to Parkview Regional Hospital for evaluation and released the following morning, according to KWTX 10 News.
