Sail Newport, the Rhode Island non-profit organization founded in 1983 to promote the sailing lifestyle to the public, debuted a video at the Sail Newport gala honoring co-founder Dr. Robin Wallace on Sept. 20 at Fort Adams State Park.
The video, “Getting People Out on the Water,” was produced by marine photographer Onne van der Wal, written by Joe Berkeley and edited by Tate MacDowell. It details the organization’s humble beginnings and the impact it still has on people’s lives.
Sail Newport’s mission is to promote and operate affordable public sailing instruction, rental programs and to create opportunities to attract new sailors to the sport. It is home to New England’s largest public sailing center and is considered Rhode Island’s premier public sailing site.
Instructional programs, fleets of rental boats and a prime one-design sailing facility equipped with hoists are among its features.
The Dr. Robin Wallace Youth Sailing Center is the headquarters of Sail Newport’s Youth Sailing Program, which serves hundreds of children each season.
