Don’t worry. The Draken Harald Harfagre is not in New York to pillage. She offers an opportunity to anyone who is curious to go aboard a true Viking ship.
If you can’t get to the city before the ship leaves Monday, here’s a cool chance to explore it digitally with Capt. Bjorn Ahlander. The video is a bit long, but you’ll enjoy watching the captain describe the ship — its construction, its accommodations and its voyage.
Draken is reliving the legendary trans-Atlantic crossing to the New World that the Vikings made 1,000 years ago. The ship docked at North Cove Marina in New York on Sept. 17 and will remain until Sept. 26.
Draken has sailed from Norway to Iceland, Greenland, Canada and the American Midwest. The ship’s next destination is Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Conn., where it will spend the winter.
