The commercial watermen of Cape Charles, Va., took a break from their traps to show off their boat-handling skills to an audience of impressed onlookers.
A crowd of about 1,200 spectators cheered with temperatures in the mid-90s as watermen competed for fastest times in boating classifications of 30-39 feet, 40 feet and above and wood; teams; and a shoot-out finale. Trophies and cash prizes of approximately $9,500 were awarded to winners.
“The louder you are, the faster they go,” said Eric “Flea” Emily, emcee of the event, energizing the crowd for the competitors.
