A liveaboard couple were rescued from their grounded sailboat, Maybe Tomorrow, last week after they tried to escape the path of Hurricane Irene.
Since then, the man has been arrested three times and most recently attempted to take his own life. His mate said he has several medical conditions, is an alcoholic and sometimes does not take his medication.
The man is now at a psychiatric hospital while his mate gave an interview with a Virginia television station news show.
