Spending a week on a yacht is a dream for many, but for some top MBA students, it’s becoming a rite of passage. Yacht Week in Croatia has become a popular way for students from schools like Harvard, Duke, Northwestern and more to meet one another during a week-long adventure in the Mediterranean.
“The friends I went on the journey with, maybe one day we’ll be co-founders,” said Hannah Bae to the Wall Street Journal. “I know that we will definitely be successful.”
Participants can choose to stay on a monohull or catamaran. Some of the most popular boats in the Yacht Week fleet are include the Lagoon 450, Hanse 575 and the Bali 4.1 cat. On any of these boats participants are provided with a skipper to operate a yacht equipped with a full galley, bedding and bathroom linens, and Wi-Fi.
Yachts moor in circles to create an on-the-water party where attendees can hang out on inflatables, enjoy food and drink, and walk easily from boat to boat to meet new friends and business contacts.
It’s all great fun, but it doesn’t come cheap. The price to get a berth aboard a yacht in Croatia starts near $588 per person, but trips to other destinations can go for around $1,400 per person. Other Yacht Week locations include Athens, Turkey, Tahiti and the BVI.
In 2022, the 963 yachts that participated in all Yacht Week festivals covered about 84,840 nautical miles. Yacht Week is not for those who like to sit at the dock, but business students stand by their belief that it’s an excellent way to network.
