It’s a local institution for bargain-hunting boaters and the “world’s largest nautical swap shop” will return to South Florida next week.
From March 3-6 the 26-acre parking lot of the Mardi Gras Casino at U.S. 1 and Pembroke Road in Hallandale Beach, Fla., will be the site of the Dania Beach Marine Flea Market.
Organizers said private individuals and marine-related businesses will sell used marine equipment, coral-encrusted antiques, new and used boats, fishing tackle, diving gear, marine artwork and other boating-related items at low prices.
“Some shoppers to the Marine Flea Market travel hundreds of miles to find that elusive part for a 1946 vintage outboard motor. Others are looking for antique fishing tackle,” event coordinator Jennifer Dudas said in a statement. “Over the four days, thousands of boating- and fishing-related items are bought and sold through a system of dickering and dealing at a fraction of their retail value.”
Visitors can find antique ships’ clocks displayed next to state-of-the-art marine electronics. New and used scuba gear finds its place in a booth with outboard motors and marine artwork.
The flea market offers an informal, almost party-like atmosphere where shoppers can enjoy a wide variety of food and drink while they wander the aisles in search of nautical “treasures” or a fishing boat.
