The Coast Guard says a sailor in the annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race was killed after a boom on the vessel knocked the person overboard.
Officials say the Coast Guard responded to a call shortly before 7 p.m. Friday off Windmill Point, near Gloucester.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that crew on the Cuchulain had pulled the injured crewmember from the water and were performing CPR.
The Cuchulain is a 50-foot schooner home-ported in Pasadena, Md.
